Referral Check

Referrals

Checks every referral is complete before it leaves and when it arrives, so it is not sent back six weeks later.

What Referral Check does

  • Outbound: checks a practice’s referral against the receiving service’s published requirements before it is sent, and names what is missing.
  • Inbound: reads every arriving referral at a hospital, checks it for completeness, and worklists the gaps for the referral clerk.
  • Surfaces the criteria clause that applies, so the person deciding can see it.
  • Where the published criteria say emergency, puts the item at the top in red and does nothing else automatically.

Guardrails

  • Categorise a referral or set its urgency. It asks and waits for a clinician.
  • Decide a referral is out of scope or an emergency. It shows the criteria; a human in the loop decides.
  • Read the patient’s clinical record. It reads the referral it was sent.
  • Reject a referral. Returns are always a person’s decision.
Who it helps

The referral clerk at a hospital outpatients department. The practice nurse sending a referral for the third time. The head of unit reviewing a triage backlog. The patient who is not told, weeks later, that something was missing.
